PDT frequently asked questions:

Who will be working with my dog?

You will be working with one of our training specialist. We are as picky with our staff as we are with the clients we take on. All trainers have been personally trained by Tammy. If Tammy is not the main trainer she develops every dog plan and assesses the dogs progress thought their program.

What happens if I don’t get the results I want form the training? is there a guarantee?

Due to the variables to create a well-behaved balanced dog, including owner commitment, consistency, and follow though, it would be unethical for us to offer a 100% guarantee.  However, we only choose the most dedicated owners so, in our experience, no matter how severe the issue, we consistently see huge breakthroughs.  We work hand in hand as a team in your dogs rehabilitation.  This process of teamwork and collaboration begins way before we meet your dog.  This process continues long after your dog goes home.  Once you hire us, we consider you a part of the Primitive Dog family, and your success is out main priority.

Will I get to see my dog during the board and train?

We don not allow visits during the board and train program. We understand being away from your dog is hard, but we find the owners visits counter-productive. It ultimately slows our progress and can actually set the dog back.

Do you use treats to train my dog?

We start with using your dogs food to build attraction, but then quickly move to building the relationship without the food. We want to avoid the hyper fixation on the food that can cause dogs to tune out if you have no food.

Why do you use slip collars?

Slip collars in the proper positions serve the purpose of giving the dog a bio feedback loop. We use this feedback to match the dogs intensity there for neutralizing the charge. We are not causing pain just a little discomfort to communicate with the dog. Prongs and slip collars are the safest most effective way to communicate with the dog both during training and after.

What does the day in the life of a board and train look like?

All dogs sleep inside, in our home. We only work with a small handful of dogs at any given time, which allows us to give every dog the personal attention they need, as well as maintaining a calm, relaxed, and quiet environment. First thing in the morning, all dogs go for a long structured walk. After that dogs will have some downtime in the crate. From there we start the training day, with each dog receiving 90-120 minutes of training. While this might not sound like an enormous amount of time, it’s more than enough for dogs to make significant, consistent progress without overwhelming them or burning them out. We don’t allow free roaming or interactions with other client dogs. Only our 100% safe personal dogs will be involved, so your dog won’t be at any risk for injury. And most importantly, every moment of the day is training – this means crate behavior, thresholds, feeding, potty breaks, and every interaction are all a huge part of the overall training process, and why we’re so successful..

My dog is aggressive? Do you work with aggressive dogs?

Yes we specialize in aggression rehabilitation. We have developed a specialized program for even the most severe of cases. Our program is designed to really reach your dog!

My dog is unruly on the walk… can you help?

We have created a program to help those dogs that have even the most challenging walking issues!

I have tried other trainers before and didn’t get the results I desired-what makes your program so much better?

We often are the last stop for our clients after multiple trainers. Unlike other trainers that only focus on developing rehearsed behaviors, we have developed a unique approach to changing the dogs “state of mind/body”. All trauma lives within the dogs body and ultimately they are not choosing the behavior to spite you, piss you off, or because you left them. They literally can not function. We work the dog through the trauma and get under it. Bring your dog back to puppyhood and build your dog back up to a confident more stable dog.

I cant afford your programs, but my dog is in a bad situation - what are my options?

Most of our clients use PayPal’s credit program this allows you to pay for 6 months with no interest. After that for special situations we have made some payment plans for clients. If both of these options don’t work for you, you can get started by following our pages.
