about us

Training

Primitive Dog is a Canine Training Center whos mission is to bring emotional well being to you and your dog through the practice of Natural Dog Training founded by Kevin Behan. We use the five Core as a tools to give your dog coping mechanisms for them to master real world situations! By using these tools you no longer need to try to control your dog through commands or dominance. They are magnetically attracted to you! These Exercises will allow you to get obedience without a single word…. In todays domesticated world dogs struggle to know where they can put their energy. Not only do we teach you these skills, we also help you see the world through a different lens. Once you see things through your dogs eyes you will begin to understand them AND BUILD A BOND THAT IS UNBREAKABLE!

Dog Training/ Blended programs

If you are looking for the basics: heel, sit, down stay, we’ve got that covered.  This program can help you build a solid rapport built relationship with your dog! We can reach a dog that has been unreachable…  Take the time to learn how your dog sees the world and it will pay off ten fold.

We have several training options

  • Day Training (at our place option for pick-up and drop-off)

  • In-home lessons (one to ones)

  • Private lessons at our home

  • Board and Trains

Puppy Training/ Blended Programs

Puppies learn very quickly.  All family members must agree upon responsibility and rules for the new pup.

It's normal for a young puppy to be a little 'input-output' machine. Since puppies are growing and developing rapidly, they eat food often, burn up lots of energy and seem to need to eliminate constantly! They also have not yet developed bowel and bladder control, so they can't 'hold it'.

Crate training is an effective way to house train a puppy. Puppies do not like to soil their resting/sleeping quarters if given adequate opportunity to eliminate elsewhere. Temporarily confining your puppy to a small area strongly inhibits the tendency to urinate and defecate, this also keeps them safe so they are not getting into things they shouldn't.

Boarding

We have been operating a boarding service since 2013, and purchased this new location in early 2018. This new location enables us to be able to offer more services for the dogs that stay with us. Each dog will get a long walk in the woods daily and several let outs during the day.

Primitive Dog is located on 21 acres in Charlton, NY. This property has 3 acres of mowed yard and 17 plus acres of wooded trails. These trails enable your dog to forget about city life and get back to nature.

Private WalkS

Private walks are a nice way for your pup to get exercise and well just get back to being a dog. These are stress free walks on a long lead, so that your dog can experience all that nature has to offer. These private walks are done one at a time so your dog has the full experience of having 21 acres all to their self.

I have been using The Primitive Dog since they trained my husky, Cyrus, as a pup. Cyrus is now two years old. The faces sometimes change, but each dog walker has been consistently compassionate and diligent.
